Overall, it was a lovely read and I absolutely enjoyed it. The book touches on the advancement of the Indian civilisation of the time. Various legends of Shiva are incorporated in the book well. The various emotions of Shiva and the way he reacts to events around him are very well presented and put us in the protagonist's shoes. The way people see "the other side" as evil and themselves as good forms the crux of the story. The contrast between order and chaos is highlighted and becomes a prominent point towards the end of the book. We visit the ancient civilisation of Meluhas, their enemy swadeepans and see a glimpse of a common enemy of the two nations. He fights his own battles while fighting for those he must protect and those he has come to love.Īmish Tripathi captures the various ways of life of the people of India and takes us on a journey throughout northern India. It takes us on the journey of Shiva, who begins as a tribal chief around the Manasarovar lake and later takes on the roles of Neelkanth and Mahadev. In this book however Shiva, Ram, Hanuman, are all exceptional human beings who came to be revered through their actions and the impact they had on their society. The book is a reimagination of the origin of the Hindu God Shiva. The Immortals of Meluha is the first book of the Shiva trilogy by Amish Tripathi.
